Baking racks: function and added style
Baking racks are very similar to oven racks in construction. The major difference is that baking racks are lightweight in construction and have little legs on the edges. A baking rack is used to cool cakes, cookies and buns when they are taken out of the oven and out of the pan that was used to cook them. Baking racks are usually square in shape but round baking racks are now easily available in stores. How a baking rack is used is as follows: the hot cakes, cookies and buns are taken of the hot baking sheet or cake pan with a metal spatula and placed gently directly on to the baking rack. The open air weave of the baking style allows the air to cool the food from the bottom as well as from the top. That is basically what the function of baking racks is. Hot food is cooled from the bottom and from the top at the same time allowing for more even cooling which actually helps the consistency of the food to be more even, and food actually tastes better when cooled on a baking rack according to customers of baking racks.
Baking racks are usual kitchen gadgets and should always be hand washed in soapy water, towel dried and stored along with your other oven baking sheets and pans. Baking sheets are not meant to be used as trays to serve food only to cool food when out of the oven. With your baking racks, your counters will be safe from the heat of the cooked food when put on the counter to cool.
